Quiet times

After a hoppin' April (Filmed By Bike, Midnite Mystery Ride, and a failed Eastside Theater Tour), May will be a bit quiet as I direct my Urban Adventure League energy towards preparing for two new rides for this year's Pedalpalooza, and finally finishing the 2006 edition of the Portland Bicycle Culture Primer. But I emphasize "a bit" quiet, since there's always something up. I'll be participating in the Pretty Dress Ride, coordinating brunches at The Hostel and starting up the Pedal Potluck Picnic series after Memorial Day (see subsequent posts for details.)

I will also be selling my wares at the Bike Swap Meet that is happening on Mother's Day, Sunday May 14th, at Free Geek. Here's some details. Make sure you stop by!

Oh yeah, about the two brand new PedalPalooza rides:

Sunday June 11th
DEAD FREEWAYS RIDE
2375 NW Thurman St (in front of Food Front Cooperative Grocery)
11:00am
What if...Portland built all the freeways it planned? This ride will follow the routes of several highways that never made it off the drawing board, such as the fabled Mt. Hood Freeway, some that did but were later removed, like Harbor Drive, and also as a reference some freeways that currently exist. Dressing up and/or decorating bikes is highly encouraged, let's celebrate!

Saturday June 17th
SULLIVAN'S GULCH TOUR
eastside of Steel Bridge on the Esplanade
2:30pm
Let's explore Sullivan's Gulch, a natural valley on Portland's eastside, while having a fun bike ride! We'll learn about why the Gulch is there, find out more about the history surrounding this unique land feature, and get some other factoids that the Urban Adventure League is known for. Info-tainment!
