RIDE REPORT:
Final Pedal Potluck Picnic Ride of 2007
Tuesday September 11th
START POINT: Hawthorne Hostel
END POINT: weird triangle "parklet" at NE 33rd and Clackamas by the I-84 offramp
RIDERS: 14?
I've wanted to go to this destination for awhile. It's not really a park by any means, but it has landscaping and is regularly mowed. It doesn't seem to be used by anyone other than the occassional homeless person and dogs. In fact, it was hard to find a spot on the lawn that didn't have dogshit. It's owned by ODOT (and listed as "recreation land") and if you look at portlandmaps.com you can see it consists of several parcels of land, most likely bought up by the highway department in the '50s when they created the Banfield Expressway. It's not the most romantic place, but it could be a useful neighborhood park if they put in a park bench or play structure. There's probably never been a picnic here, until now.
And what a picnic! For food we had vegan mac n' cheese, couscous with sauce, salads aplenty, ice cream, an awesome cobbler from Travelling Dan, cheese and crackers, and more!
We'll start the 2008 series in May. Look for news on this site!
