Rockin' with Walktober: Council Crest Climb

WARNING: No bike content in this post.

The fine folks over at the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition are putting on Walktober, a three-week long "walking fun" festival. Think of it as Pedalpalooza for feet! And for Walktober, I decided to dust off the ol' walking shoes and lead the first Urban Adventure League walking event in a long, long time!

So, without further ado, the Council Crest Climb!

Council Crest Climb
Friday, October 26, 2012
Meet at 12:30 pm, leave at one.
Event may last longer than three hours.
Meet At: Collins Circle SW 18th Av and SW Jefferson St, next to Goose Hollow MAX

Take an 'urban hike' up to Council Crest, highest point in the city (1,070 feet!) Use secret stairways and paths and not-so-secret sidewalks to get to the top while learning about the interesting history of the area (note: no actual rock-type-climbing involved). There will be great views of the city along the way, and the top you may be able to peep four different volcanoes! After ascending to the Crest, we'll then descend via the Marquam Trail to OHSU where we'll hop on the Tram to the Waterfront. Possible exploration of South Waterfront if time/interest allows.

We'll also stop at a market along the way for snacks.

Please wear some good walkin'/hikin' shoes, as the walk surfaces will be a mix of dirt and paved, with some stairs thrown in.

You got this far? Good, here is your reward:

  1. Sounds good I went for a half mile walk today I got a flat on my bicycle.

  2. Cyclists have one-uped motorists. Pedestrians have one-uped cyclists.

Walking is the most basic form of transportation. Even though I'm an avid cyclist, I'd like to participate in events like this.

Definitely update us on how the event went.

    Thanks,
    Cullen

  3. If I wasn't on my way to San Francisco that week, it sounds like fun. Happy Walktober!
