Doesn't this scene look tantalizing? We'll, it is here. In Portland. And it was taken in JANUARY 2008 by Brad Reber.
ANNOUNCING...
THE 5TH ANNUAL WINTER PALM TREE RIDE!
SUNDAY 18 JANUARY 2009
After months, er, weeks of snow, what better way to brighten up the spirits than take a bike ride looking at exotic, tropical, and GREEN vegetation? It's time for the 5th Annual Palm Tree Ride!
It's happening SUNDAY JANUARY 18TH, 2009. Meet up at 11 am Seven Virtues Coffeehouse at 5936 NE Glisan St. (You can take Trimet bus 19, 71, or Blue Line/Red Line MAX to get there!)
Come along for a bicycle ride passing by the multitude of palm trees and other tropical and evergreen vegetation growing in the city. This ride will be a bit different than the ones we have done in the past, we're going to explore some different areas. Ride should last about four hours or so, with plenty of stops and maybe a refreshment break.
THE IMPORTANT DETAILS: Ride not a loop. Rain or shine! (We haven't canceled one yet, and don't intend to!) And wear shorts!
Because if palm trees can survive the winter in Portland, then so can you.

Is there any fee for this ride? If it's free, I'd like to include it on my blog. aroundthesunblog.com
ReplyDeleteAmy, there's never any fee with an Urban Adventure League event! Of course, there can be bus fare involved and I generally am not going to pay for your food. Donations are always accepted, and I have zines for sale. But the event itself is free...free...FREE!
ReplyDeleteDo you think there will be lots of people for this ride? How many people participated last year?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Plenty?
ReplyDeleteHow long will this ride be? Does it depart promptly at 12? Is this a fast paced thing or a leisurely ride? My condition cycling condition was good once upon a time, but I wouldn't consider myself a lycra clad speed cyclist any more.
ReplyDeletep.s. I know where Ansonia is. Mother always warned me never to ride my bike on Ansonia Road, which, incidentally, was a stones throw from my childhood home.
Ranny, the ride actually left at 11:15. None of my rides are considered "fast paced".
